2322 Mens Shed committee
The Management Committee are keen to secure funding and some land to establish a more permanent community facility and are working with Newcastle City Council to achieve these aims.
A team from the 233 Mens Shed manned a stall at the recent Men's Shed Expo at the Maitland Town Hall. This has brought some new members to the group and greater exposure in the local area.
The 2322 Mens's Shed has a strong management group committed to meeting the needs of local men in the Beresfield Taro area.

Watanobbi Fun Day
The Benevolent Society regional office at Watanobbi organised a Family Fun Day at the de L'ísle Road office. The afternoon from 1- 4pm included a sauzage sizzle, drum workshop, pace painting and tissue boxes ... built and painted.
The Mobile Men's Shed was a great hit with local families. Kids from the local neighbourhood helped to build over 40 tissue boxes and the queue was still 6 deep at closing time. The painting station was held open to allow kids to not only build their projects but also decorate them with their favourite colours.
Thanks to the Staff and volunteers from the Benevolent Society.
Congratulations on a very successful event.
Local families are now looking forward to the next event with a Winter Magic theme.

The group had enjoyed the visit to San Remo and The Entrance during the morning and were keen to push on to Kincumber and a lunch at Gosford Men's Shed. They had learned a great deal on their educational tour and will be well armed for their meeting with Council this afternoon.

Men's Shed Expo Maitland
The Men's Shed Expo at Maitland Town Hall went of well with shed displaying their wares, service providers promting Men's Health, seminars and health checks at the Pit Stop. Many shedders from the Central Coast took the opportunity to travel up by car and rail to join in the celebration and promotion of Men's Sheds.

The 2322 Men's Shed at Beresfield displayed their stone cutting and lapidairy machine which generated considerable interest over the two day event. John Bell and Chris Smith did an excellent job promoting the 2322 shed.Congratulation to Marty and the team that put together this very successful promotion of Men's Sheds and the important work that they do in the community.

New Horizons
New Horizons are opening two new offices on the Central Coast and needed some plaques acknowledging the traditional owners of the land.
Thanks to ATB Trophies at Bateau Bay the plaques were prepared in plenty of time.
The team at The Entrance Men's shed offered to prepare the wooden plinths and had these two all ready to go for the openings.

Men’s sheds grants available
Men’s Sheds and community-based organisations across the country can again apply for up to $10,000 each through the second round of the Australian Government’s Shed Development Program.The Minister for Indigenous Health, Warren Snowdon, who is also responsible for male health, said the funding round would give community groups an opportunity to establish new sheds or improve existing sheds.
“Community groups can use the funding to purchase work equipment, improve disability access, obtain shed insurance or connect to utilities.”
The Gillard Government is providing $750,000 over three years through the Australian Men’s Shed Association to provide financial assistance to eligible men’s sheds across the country.
Mr Snowdon said the social support and camaraderie found in Men’s Sheds could significantly relieve the isolation and loneliness many Australian men experience.
“Men often form friendships as they work together, doing things that are traditionally done in sheds, like building furniture, fixing machinery and working on small projects to help other local community groups,” Mr Snowdon said.
The first funding round of the Shed Development Program was announced in February 2011 assisted 20 Men’s Sheds and recognised their valuable contribution to improving men’s health and wellbeing.
The program prioritises funding regions which do not have sheds; have high unemployment; or are establishing sheds for identified priority groups of males.
The funding to support men’s sheds is part of the $16.7 million committed by the Australian Government to improve male health under the National Male Health Policy. The policy provides a framework for improving the health of all males and achieving equal health outcomes, particularly for groups of males at risk of poor health.

Shed Roundup - March 2011
The Central Coast Shed Cluster Inc Committee meeting includes a Shed Roundup where where sheds get to brag, beg, ask and exchange information and news about their sheds. Here are some of the comments from todays meeting at the Gosford Mens Shed.......- Terrigal Men's Shed
Terrigal Men's Shed Currently 30 members and operating 2 days per week Tuesday & Thursday. The second day is for own projects to give some space to move projects forward. Recently purchased a new Band Saw from Hare & Forbes. Have had two dust extractors donated by John Welland from the Gosford Men’s Shed. The Terrigal Men’s Shed sign, found, routed, painted and erected was vandalised and removed last week. Applying for grants and may need an auspice by the Cluster.
- Gosford Men's Shed
The Gosford Men's Shed members put on a Seniors Week display in the Imperial Arcade. John Welland did a radio interview with 96.3 that was broadcast during Seniors Week. This promotion generated new members. Building a 4 luggage carriers for Camp Kariong. On Firday 32 men at the toolbox meeting. Membership growing. Seeking AMSA round 2 funding for an awning.
- Wyong Men's Shed
Now has an elected committee. The President Michael Morgan is working on a logo design and website for the Wyong Men’s Shed. Seeking funding in addition to the $64,000 Community Builders Partnership grant. Have approached the Regional Chamber of Commerce. Plans to make the Men’s Shed Eco friendly using recycled material, installing water tanks and solar panels. The recent article in the Express Advocate about the shed had generated many new enquiries and renewed interest in the Wyong Men’s Shed.
- Ku-ring-gai Men’s Shed
Located at St Ives Showground. After investigating numerous sites The Kuring-gai Men's Shed was build to lockup in August 2010 and officially opened on 27 January 2011. Now open Monday Tuesday and Thursday. The Shed operates a community kitchen on Fridays where men can be directed on how to prepare simple, healthy and nutritious meals. Also open two Saturdays per month. Already approaching sustainability through orders filled. . . this includes Bocce Slides for those with disabilities. Possum boxes and other saleable items. They have built up a relationship with local childcare centres to do repairs and modifications for toys and equipment. The shed was equipped fully for about $30,000 and acknowledged the contribution of sponsors such as Lions and Bendigo Bank. The shed has about 190 members and charge $50 per year. Some of the original administrative setup for their Development Application was provided probono to the value of $25,000.
- Kincumber Men’s shed
Alan Eaton has taken on the role as representative in lieu of Alan Sparkes. The Kincumber Men's Shed is now open from Monday to Friday. Usually have 30 men at a toolbox meeting and had recently celebrated 4th Birthday.
- San Remo Men’s Shed
Have recently received a $1,100 grant from Wyong Shire Council towards an outside social area. This is an area in addition to the under awning work and meeting area at the front of the shed. Having removed a large stump at the side of the shed, the shedders are ready to lay pavers and build a pergola for casual meetings, private conversations and a quiet space away from the hubbub of machinery and shed activity. The San Remo Community Men's Shed has established a partnership with Casuarina Grove Retirement village near Wyong Shire Hospital. Wyong shire Mayor Doug Eaton plans to visit for morning tea next week. The Shed is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The Shed has an average of 16 men per day each day of the week.
- Peninsula Men’s Shed
Peninsula Men's Shed has received a $16,000 grant and has the Development Application passed for their new 8m x 9m shed. After two years in operation they are keen to have their purpose built shed in place.
- Bateau Bay Men’s Shed
Currently 95 members and is open 3 days per week 8.30am to 4 pm. Most weeks see 70 members attending the Bateau Bay Men's Shed. Three open days were held during Seniors Week with free bar-b-ques each day. The theme for the week was bring-a-mate and it appears that’s exactly what happened with at least 6 new memberships from the promotional week. Mayor Doug Eaton dropped in on the Thusday open day and was so impressed returned less than a week later to show other councillors, and community services staff through the facility. Bateau Bay also discussed with Wyong Shire Council the Community Garden proposed for the site.
- The Entrance Men’s Shed
The Development Application (DA) has been approved for the training, meeting and office facility. The Entrance Men's Shed committee are keen to progress now with the building.

GOATS - successful day for San Remo Shed
Men's Shed made a strong presence at G.O.A.T.S Music Festival at Integral Energy Koala Park San Remo.
The Mobile Men’s Shed was deployed adjacent to the San Remo Men’s Shed Stall. An excellent display of carpentry items and art objects decorated the stands along with brochures for the Shed and information on men’s health.
During the day 35 tissue box projects were assembled by kids from the age of three to senior years, boys and girls, men and women. Some of the kits were even purchased for assembly at home.
With no grant funding available to cover community engagement activity for this event each kit was charged at $2.00 each. Construction activity was popular throughout the day till about 2pm when most of the crowd moved to the entertainment stages.
Many thanks to George C for towing the trailer from Tuggerah to San Remo and then enthusiastically manning the San Remo stall throughout the day. George W and Glenn Spain did an excellent joy dealing with enquiries about the shed, items for sale and the role of sheds in men's health.

Australian Association of Gerontologists Regional Conference
The Central Coast Shed Cluster attended the Australian Association of Gerontologists (AAG) Regional Conference at the invitation of UnitingCare Ageing Hunter, Central Coast & New England. This event was held in the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre.
The morning tea was an excellent networking opportunity and enable disucssions with those working with aged care across a broad spectrum of occupations and various levels from volunteer to senior public servants.
Discussions were held around a small table where displays of shed brochures and mens health information attracted a constant stream of visitors to the stand. and covered a range of interests from suicide to hearing, education to dementia, and shed development to mens groups.

Mort Shearer, President of the Australian Mens Shed Association dropped by the stand on his way to speak at the AAG conference about the role of Men's Sheds in ageing. Angie Robinson from UnitingCare and a member from the Committee of the Central Coast Shed Cluster Inc also presented to the AAG Conference directly after the networking morning tea.
The Men's Shed Stand was busy thorughout the hour and Blokes Books and Cards were most sought after. Some discussions were just about Men's Sheds role. All attendees were referred to the website and offered Cluster Business Cards to find their way our website resource.
This foyer space at right presented in all its finery was quickly filled with delegates eager to enjoy the sponsored morning tea and just as eager to talk about issues in aged health with the Men's Shed Cluster, Peer Education, Womens Health Centre, Hunter Older Blokes and other community groups invited to participate.

Wyong Mens Shed in press
MEN who love their sheds are invited to help plan and build the new Wyong Men’s Shed.The State Government has partially funded the initiative which will be built in the grounds of the historic old school in Ranken Court, Wyong.
A steering committee has been formed which has met twice and meetings with Wyong Council about the design of the shed are well advanced.
Colette Baron, of Wyong Neighbourhood Centre, said a development application should be lodged soon.
“We are hoping it will be one of the first eco men’s sheds and we aim to use solar power and recycled materials,” she said.
Committee member Tim Murphy said the shed would be a place where men could meet, socialise, play cards and make things. “We are hoping to get hundreds of men, old and young,” another member Peter Blood, a retired electrician, said. Steering committee president Michael Morgan said the shed would be part of the Central Coast cluster of men’s sheds.
The men at the shed will also work on making items for charitable groups. “It’s about whatever they want to do,” Ms Baron said. “It’s for men who want to socialise with other blokes and don’t go to the pub.”
One member Ralph Teesson has joined several men’s sheds before including Kincumber, the oldest on the coast, and San Remo. He was pleased to have the opportunity to join a shed closer to home.
The steering committeee hopes some of the members will start working before the shed is built, by building the actual shed.
The next meeting is on May 4 at 9.30am.
