Dads Day Out - Gosford

Kibble Park was filled with dads and kids for Dads Day Out.Gosford 2011. Everyone from Black Knights to community leaders turned up on a day with beautiful blue skies.

The event was opened at 11am by Chris Holstein MP and Gosford City Councillor Laurie Maher.

The addition of Farm Machinery and the Black Knights added to the male atmosphere and the inclusion of Farmyard Animals and Reptile Displays delighted the kids.

Wiggle and giggle involved the kids in displays and the men all lined up for Health Checks. Fifty blokes took up the challenge of having the Chassis checked out and the oil (blood) pressure measured. Many thanks to Michelle Bradbury from Central Coast Division of General Practice for the effort in organising and operating this important facility for Mens Health on the day.

The Exress Advocate have some photos online from the very successful Dads Day Out.

History Week - Alison Homestead

The Mobile Men's Shed was the centre of attention for chatting with older men and those concerned about socially isolated men. With many a conversationa from visitors from all over the coast this was an excellent opportunity to spread the word about Men's Sheds.

With Fathers Day the folowing day there were many families at the event either, visiting dad on the coast or having dad out for a day, while he was in town for the visit.

With fewer kids about, we enlisted the assisstance of the Town Crier to summon the children to do shome manual labour at the mens shed sweatshop, making tissue boxes covers.

It was an excellent day for the event. The fire engines added a touch of glamour and the historic costumes were to key to the event theme.

Congratulations to Roman for all the hard work and the dedication of the all night vigil !!

Shed Roundup - August 2011

Swansea Shedspent about $80,000 in building funds.

DA in council for workshop. Day in Swansea last week and good response from “shedders” to hold stall.

Toys were sold.

Peninsula Shed: Slab laid and frame up.

Bateau Bay Men's Shed - Members attendance good.
$79,000 from Community Builders grant over 3 years. Council improvement grant  - $1700. CDSE  money $4,500.
Members survey to be distributed at AGM to determine needs/satisfaction.

Gosford Men's Shedhad to close for 1 day due to building activity at Coast Shelter. Missed out on 3 funding opportunities, one was from AMSA. Lot of activity at shed.

The Entrance Men's Shed – Finished their extension and now lining the extension. Mezzanine floor now erected.

San Remo Shed  A Shed member had a heart attack at the

Shed. Quick action by the team and he is now back at the Shed A stall at the Gwandalan Fair with Manno Men's Shed.

Terrigal Shed – A fair at Terrigal Mens Shed on 10th September 2011

2232 Shed: Involved in community projects. Shed asked to build Awning over ramps - community project..

Received funding to build Mobile Men’s Shed with workable tools for demonstrations.

Manno Men’s Shed -

15 members – meeting with Wyong Council. Has identified 5 sites for WSC to look at. Brochures being printed – logo decided. Membership waning because meeting too often (weekly) and nowhere to do activities. Meeting was monthly

but losing members. Meetings now to go to fortnightly. Manno first community making job - Chocolate Wheel for community.

Wyong Men’s Shed: All info on MSCC website. DA in and hoping to be operational by Christmas.

Kincumber Men’s Shed: Wally indicated they have gone through structural change. Management committee formerly stood down due to insurance coverage issues. They are in need of administration support and maybe will have 2 ladies involved– coffee tables, rocking aeroplanes have evolved from three trailer loads of wood turning material. The good news is that we got half of the CDSE funds and Davistown provided$4,500.

Wally Morrison now a life member of Kincumber Men’s Sheds.
