Blood diseases at Bateau Bay

Amanda presents in the Bateau Bay Shed
Amanda Burfitt from NSW Health spent the morning explaining blood diseases to the shedders at Bateau Bay Men's Shed.

Covering Hepatitis in its many forms, other blood borne diseases including HIV/AIDS Amanda proved to be knowledgeable and entertaining, fending off the many questions from the shedders.

Amanda has undertaken to visit other Men's Sheds across the Central Coast over the year to share this important knowledge and raise awareness of the safety issues associated with these diseases. These discussions are part of the Toolbox Talks presentations supported by Mens Sheds Central Coast Inc.

Carevan Contribution

Posted by Picasa

Many thanks to Bruce Tubnor at Bateau Bay Men's Shed for fitting out the Carevan with the Urn Bench and drawers. This is the centre of activity when the Carevan is deployed.

Seen here at Millenium Park, Wyong the gas urn quickly heats up the hotwater while the very organised drawers make it easy to find hot drink or noodle makings easy. Blankets and other items for distribution are stored inside.

The Carevan is now on regular deployment on Wednesday nights. The teams still require more volunteers and there are always roles for administration or logistic support for this excellent initiative adressing homelesssness on the Central Coast.

If you can be of any assitance contact Ed McCarthy (pictured) at the CCCC.

New Signs for Mobile Mens Shed

The Mobile Men's Shed has great decals on all sides of the trailer structure. This make it a very effective mobile billboard for advertising sheds on the road.

However, when deployed at events there is only one side that stays fixed and often has not been visible to casual visitors to the Mobile Shed. The internal sign that did hang to the middle of the trailer had to be raised an more securely fixed with a piano hinge.

In order to increse the visibility of "Men's Sheds" branding, new signs that would be visible when deployed at events were sought. This was also an opportunity to acknowledge two current sponsors of Men's Sheds Central Coast Inc.

The Access Program funded by the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, Human Services is acknowledged in the new signage.

Also, the valuable contribution from ADSSI Limited is recognised. ASDDI store the Mobile Men's Shed at their Home Modifications Workshop at Tuggerah and provide access to the trailer during business hours for collection and return.

Many thanks Bruce at Bateau Bay Men's Shed for fitting the signs to the trailer so that the Men's Shed message will be well seen when next the trailer is on display.
