New shed lacks crucial ingredient

Diana Hanks, of Gosford Rotary, with Laurie Maher

A NEW men’s shed will be opened at Gosford, but there is just one thing missing - the men.

Gosford Council, Coast Shelter and Gosford City Rotary Club have worked together to create the latest men’s shed, part of a growing phenomenon around Australia.

The Rotary club has come up with the funds for the shed and all that is needed is members and someone to run it.

“Many men no longer have the chance to carry on their hobbies in their shed and so a shed near transport will give our men a wonderful opportunity to meet, carry on their hobbies and impart their skills and knowledge to others,” Coast Shelter executive director Laurie Maher said.

“All we’re missing now is the men.”

Until then the Rotary club and Coast Shelter will run it.

Men’s sheds are located around Australia and used as a place for men to do some work, talk and make new friends.

Activities within sheds include woodwork, metalwork and restoration of old cars.

A lot of the shed members also choose to help out with charity events as well.

So far there are seven men’s sheds on the coast and it is expected to rise to ten by the end of 2009.

The new men’s shed is at 346 Mann St, Gosford.
